SERVICES
Hurricane Idalia made landfall on August 30, 2023, as a powerful Category 3 storm near Keaton Beach, Florida, in the Big Bend region. The storm unleashed catastrophic storm surge, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds, resulting in widespread flooding, extensive power outages, and damage to homes and infrastructure. In response to the disaster, CDR Health partnered with the State of Florida to provide critical relief efforts, including staffing augmentation for special needs shelters, emergency shelter staffing, and deploying mobile missions to hard-hit areas such as Steinhatchee, FL. These efforts ensured residents received timely care and support during a period of immense need. After impacting Florida, Idalia tracked through Georgia and the Carolinas, leaving a trail of destruction before dissipating, marking one of the most intense hurricanes to strike the Big Bend region in recorded history.
HIGHLIGHTS
Following the devastation of Hurricane Idalia in 2023, CDR Health and its sister division, CDR Emergency Management, responded by establishing a robust response infrastructure. This included a 100-person base camp equipped with essential services such as registration, accommodations in 12-person mobile sleeping trailers, shower and restroom facilities, laundry amenities, catering and dining provisions, power generation and HVAC systems, hygiene and sanitation facilities, custodial support, ADA compliance measures, tenting arrangements, transportation and fueling services, heavy equipment assistance, and IT/Wi-Fi connectivity.
In addition to the base camp, our deployment featured a Mobile Specialty Diagnostic Vehicle (MSDV) providing primary and urgent medical assistance to individuals affected by Hurricane Idalia. Recognizing the increased healthcare demand post-disaster, we swiftly expanded our services to include a six (6) bed Urgent & Emergent Care Center, later upgraded to a 10-bed facility, to accommodate patients in need of immediate medical attention following the storm’s impact.
